Eskrima @ 606

Eskrima is a traditional Filipino martial art, which focuses on weapons-based fighting including sticks, blades, and “improvised” weapons, as well as empty hand techniques. It complements and enhances both our striking and grappling martial arts. The Kampilan style was developed by Guro Edie Mesina over decades of training and practical application. Coach Chloe Washabaugh teaches our Eskrima classes.

Chloe Washabaugh has been training as an eskrimadora for five years. First trained under Sifu Kevin Seaman and Guro Annie Sheng in upstate New York, Chloe has since been training with Chicagoland’s Guro Edie Mesina. Her teaching is a mix of systems, including kamplian, balintawak, and the influences of Guro Dan Inosanto. As a Filipino-American, Chloe appreciates eskrima as strengthening the connection between herself and her elders. In her classes, Chloe hopes to emphasize the historical aspects of kali-eskrima, as well as how kali-eskrima relates to self defense and modern interpretations of the martial art in popular culture.
